The Beginner’s Guide to Paint Protection Film (PPF) Maintenance
Whether you’ve just had PPF installed or you’re considering it, knowing how to care for the film is crucial for long-term performance. This guide covers the essentials — especially if you’re using high-quality STEK film like we do.
1. Avoid Washing the Car for 7–10 Days
PPF adhesive needs time to fully cure. Avoid:
- No pressure washers
- No automatic car washes
- No scrubbing
- No harsh chemicals
Just let the film relax, settle, and bond.
2. Hand-Wash ONLY (Never Brush Washes)
PPF is durable — but spinning brushes at car washes can:
- Scratch the top coat
- Lift edges
- Damage film lines
Hand washing is always safest.
3. Use a pH-Neutral Soap
STEK film is chemical resistant, but harsh soaps degrade hydrophobics. Use:
- pH-neutral soap
- Microfiber mitt
- Two-bucket method
This keeps the film clean and swirl-free.
4. Ceramic Coating Over PPF Is a Great Idea
We apply ceramic coating on top of STEK PPF to add:
- Extra gloss
- Easier washability
- Stronger hydrophobics
- Better stain resistance
PPF protects the paint. Ceramic protects the film. Perfect combo.
5. Annual Inspections Are Highly Recommended
Even though PPF lasts 8–10+ years, checking it yearly helps identify:
- Lifting edges
- Stains
- Hard water spots
- Contamination buildup
It also ensures the film continues performing as intended.
Final Thoughts: PPF Is Easy to Maintain — If You Care for It Correctly
STEK PPF is built to last, self-heal, and protect your paint long-term. With proper washing and yearly checkups, it will stay glossy and durable for years.
If you’re considering PPF or need maintenance, we’re here to help — honestly, transparently, and with care.
